The Commercial Design program, which is now the Commercial Design Department, was established in 1966, and was the first design department of its kind in Taiwan. In 2002, a graduate program was founded. Through these years, numerous outstanding designers have been cultivated, and graduates have made significant contributions to improving the quality of Taiwan’s commercial design. Our department comprises diverse professional full-time and part-time faculty with design background according to the features of our curriculum. Currently, there are 14 full-time and 16 part-time faculty members in the department. The curriculum includes courses in: Visual Communication Design, Advertising Design, Packaging Design, Applied Art Design, and Digital Multimedia Design, just to name a few. Normally completed in four years, the undergraduate program admits two class cohorts every year, each comprising 60 or more students, including overseas Chinese, international students, etc. The graduate program recruits 16 students every year. Specialized classrooms includes: Packaging Design Studio, Digital Design Studio, Senior Seminar Studio, Drawing Studio, Photography Studio, Dark Room, PC Computer Classrooms and advanced computer classrooms. The department also has a gallery and adequate spaces to offer our faculty members and students an excellent display environment. Situational recreation spaces provide a literary and arts learning environment for students’ growth. Our faculty members encourage students to take part in a variety of competitions on and off campus. Students have won numerous first prizes and have had excellent achievements in competitions, such as receiving important awards, such as Times Awards, 4A Creation Award, YSED, and Young Designers’ Exhibition, etc.
